The one recurring question gamers had over the past month or so has been: Is the WoW TCG dead?

Yeah, we’re talking about the much-revered World of Warcraft TCG here.

Apparently the online buzz has been centered on the fact that Blizzard Entertainment, who owns the rights to the WoW franchise, will take away the TCG and CMG (collectible miniatures game) license from Upper Deck Entertainment.

The question that everyone, especially the game’s fans and players, had was: is it going to be game over for the much-loved TCG?

And this week, finally, the resounding answer is – no! The WoW TCG section of the TCGplayer.com website has the summary, as Blizzard has come out with an official statement that reaffirms their committment to continue supporting and producing the TCG after they take back the property from UDE.

This is certainly good news not only for fans of the game, but also the TCG industry in general.

Losing a major TCG for whatever reason would have been poor publicity for the gaming genre overall.

WoW TCG still sees regular tournaments in Malaysia even, albeit at reduced numbers and venues supporting it.

While other games such as Magic: the Gathering and Pokemon has been besting it easily numbers-wise (both in terms of sales and tournament players), the WoW card game remains alive here, perhaps in large part due to the appeal of the loot cards printed in every major expansion.

Blizzard says stay tuned for more updates – so let’s wait to see what surprises they have lined up for us!
