Find out how you can join The Star’s amazing young journalist programme!

WE’RE back! The BRATs young journalist programme will be launching for the 21st year running, and we’re calling all aspiring writers, photographers and videographers to join us!

After an epic 20th anniversary last year, which saw us bring another new batch of BRATs recruits to Johor Baru, Kuala Terengganu and Penang for four days of exciting field assignments, we’re hoping to start the next decade of

BRATs with an even bigger bang!

Many of the graduates from BRATs 2013 are already actively writing for the BRATs section right here in R.AGE, attending events and doing interviews like real journalists week in, week out.

To find out how you can apply to join the programme, drop us an email at brats@thestar.com.my!

What is BRATs?

BRATs is The Star’s young journalist programme, organised by R.AGE. We select 120 aspiring journalists every year, aged 16-19, who then attend one of three BRATs workshops (4D3N) held across the country.

The workshops are all about practical training, facilitated by journalists, photographers and videographers from The Star. Participants will get actual field assignments – visiting tourist destinations, interviewing famous personalities, learning the city’s local cultures and traditions, etc.

They’ll learn stuff like writing skills, interviewing skills, photography, videography, researching and so much more.

Once they complete the workshop (and have their stories published in The Star), the participants then join our BRATs pool of teen journalists, who regularly cover stories, interviews and events across the country for our weekly BRATs section.
