Like Lenka (in this photo), I have discovered a new love — accessories. They can brighten up a basic top, a simple dress or add some pizzazz to an already gorgeous ensemble.

Like clothes and shoes, accessories, too, change over time. Remember when the Avril Lavigne-type punk rock chokers and chunky necklaces were all the rage? They may still be, although differing slightly in design. Or what about the dangly, chandelier earrings which was once the accessory to wear?

In a quest to find out what’s new and hot in the world of earrings, necklaces, bangles and brooches, I sought out DNP Clothing Sdn Bhd marketing manager Sharon Oh.

”Although the party look of wearing fascinators and sequins is slowly being phased out, gold, silver and bronze are always in trend in Diva accessories,” said Sharon.

”These are timeless pieces that are always available in store, which are tweaked from time to time,” she added.

Gold, silver and bronze bracelets: Wear them all together, or choose a few to match with chunkier bangles for a more bohemian look.

Flowers, pearls, beads and ribbons are also features that are really trendy right now.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with colours, step out into the new year with bold statement jewellery like cloth-covered flower designs adorned with pearls and beads, as well as extravagant collar necklaces.

Gold round drop earrings: Wear your hair up or down with these gorgeous earrings to glamorise your look. However, avoid wearing a flashy necklace because that might just be overdoing it a little.

Remember, brooches too, are stylish fashion pieces you can pin on your outfit to give it that extra spark.
