Wowza! The 2010 Streamy Awards nominees was just announced yesterday! Say what? Yeah, I thought the same thing when I first heard about it, but apparently, it’s pretty respectable.

The Streamys is similar to the Oscars, Grammys or Emmys (minus the history – this year marks it’s second year only), run by the International Academy of Web Television and recognises web TV series.

Unless you’re a big fan of watching shows online (and we don’t mean illegally downloading episodes of Glee or American Idol), chances are you’ve never heard about some of these shows.

But in researching for this story, I watched a few episodes of some of the nominated shows and I must say they are pretty good. Some are so good, in fact, that they can boast a string of cameo appearances including Friends alumni Courteney Cox (who is nominated for Best Guest Star in a Web Series) and Lisa Kudrow (Best Female Actor in a Comedy Web Series)!

The awards have nominnes in about 35 categories which are broken into different areas including Overall Series, Directing, Writing, Performance and Craft Awards. Basically, no one is left out.

If you’re unfamiliar with web TV and never really knew where to start (torrent sites don’t count), this list is a pretty good place to start. With five nominees each for different types of shows including comedy, drama, hosted shows, documentary and news shows, there really is quite a few exciting stuff to check out.

My personal favourites at the moment is DIGGnation, nominated for Best Hosted Web Series and Jake and Amir (for which lead actor Amir Blumenfeld is up for a Best Male Actor in a Comedy Web Series award). I only watched a bit of the episode but if you’re the type who enjoys soaps, you might want to check out OzGirl as well.

The main Streamy awards will be presented in Hollywood on April 11, while the Craft awards will be handed out on April 7. You can check out the list of nominees at www.streamys.org or watch the video below!
