Ipoh mali: Perak Heritage Society president Law Siak Hong giving the BRATs an amazing walking tour of heritage and historical sites around Ipoh.

FOR a city that’s widely known only for its white coffee, chicken rice and idyllic, retirement-friendly lifestyle, Ipoh sure had a lot to offer the 40 participants of the BRATs Ipoh & Taiping 2014 young journalists’ camp.

Through the various field assignments they were sent on, the aspiring young journalists (aged 16-19), quickly discovered a vibrant city filled with history, culture, heritage – and amazing food – at every turn.

It was the perfect city to kick off our BRATs 2014 programme, which will see another two workshops in September and online casino December – both of which will be taking place in different cities.

But for now, we’d like to congratulate the 40 participants who completed BRATs Ipoh & Taiping, and welcome them to the BRATs family. From now on, you’ll be seeing many of their names here in R.AGE, where they will be contributing writers/photographers to our BRATs pages.

This week, for instance, we’ll be featuring all their stories, photos and videos from their Ipoh field assignments. Their work from the Taiping field assignments will be featured next Tuesday.

To find out more about BRATs, and to apply to join the programme, message us at facebook.com/starbrats, or email us at brats@thestar.com.my.
