Magic: the Gathering players might be drooling over the latest metagame, with the introduction of Mirrodin Besieged.
So the new Tezzeret apparently is the real deal – so far – going by the recent Pro Tour 2011 Paris results. Wizards of the Coast staff writer Mike Flores has the full story in his article, “The Future,” here (http://bit.ly/dTi0rW).

Tezzeret’s domination of the tournament was the talk of the event. This is where I have to say I agree with a certain Mananation.com writer, who argues over several articles on how Wizards’ design has suffered of late, due to the existence of huge gaps between the five-star mythic rares (notably the new Jace) and the “also-ran” or unwanted mythic rares (Quicksilver Gargantuan anyone?).

(Read Sean Morgan’s “Four Principles of Designing Mythics” (http://bit.ly/eh5ag5) for more on his take on the whole mythic gone wild theory. Solid stuff I have to say.)

But us casual players can only look and drool at the multiple copies of planeswalkers required. Believe me when I say they are expensive – and that’s just the start of your problems. Can someone please sell me a playset of Jace (the Mind Sculptor of course), now, pretty please?

Yeah that’s what I thought so. You’ll be hard pressed to get hold of one, let alone four copies.

Let’s do this instead: play with decks that are more casual and attainable! How about amping up your preconstructed intro decks? Check out Brad Wojceshonek’s Mananation.com “Under Preconstruction: Precon Recon” (http://bit.ly/h91S1b) for some ideas on where and how to start.

I’ve always been partial to Green in Magic. I seriously think it’s the simplest color to start for all Magic beginners, so “Tapped Out” by Adam Styborski  (http://bit.ly/fmE18k) appeals to me greatly. It might stir the inner creative juices for you too!

I’d like to end this post with great news for casual Magic players everywhere, as the new Mirrodin Besieged Event Decks will be out on February 25!

Can you count how many rares they’re giving per deck, in the decklists (http://bit.ly/gBHXbv)? Yes, they’re solid starters I must say!
