Late last year, I blogged about how Fantasy Flight Games was releasing an LCG (Living Card Game in full) based on the Lord of the Rings franchise.

It did remind me of the old Lord of the Rings TCG that Decipher Inc used to make, around the time when the motion picture trilogy first released.

The basic premise of the game is, the more heroes and good guys you play, the more options the bad guys have.

A cool aspect of FFG’s new incarnation is that the game is cooperative, so for the boxed Core Set that will be out, one to two players can actually start playing right away.

And if you want to have more players in the mix, say another two more, just buy another Core Set and you will all be sorted.

In case you missed it before, LCGs play just like TCGs, but is packaged differently, in terms of how the expansion sets are sold. The collectability is far less, as instead of the random availability of the cards via booster packs, LCG expansions are sold in fixed assortments.

This means that the game is very much geared towards a more general audience that’s looking just play, and worry less about what cards they have or don’t.

Well, I have pretty reliable information that there should be a steady supply of games such as the latest LOTR game, thanks to a new supplier or importer in town.

The details are being confirmed now, so do hang on a little longer! Suffice to say, look forward to receiving more LCGs in the months to come!
