IF YOU had the chance to tell everyone an inspiring story, and let them have a glimpse of it through film, would you do it? If your answer is yes, then you’re in luck!

Happening for the third time, the Berjaya Youth Short Film Competition is again open for young Malaysians aged 18 to 25 to share their inspiring stories through film.

To help encourage young people to take up the challenge, the organisers had a roadshow at KDU University College, PJ where Yuri Wong, CEO/Creative Director of The Factory Music Studio was the guest speaker.

Those who attended the roadshow were given a video presentation on the competition’s past winners. There was also a Q&A session about filmmaking.

This year, participants of the competition (organised by Berjaya Corporation) will have to choose one of four themes – Harmony, Celebrate, Animals, and Mother Earth.

If the chance to let your creativity run free isn’t good enough for you to join the competition, then how about this – there are prizes worth over RM80,000 up for grabs!

The grand prize winner alone will take home RM30,000 in cash, plus a Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera worth RM10,199.
The second prize is RM12,000 cash and a Canon EOS 6D worth RM6,299, while the third prize is RM5,000 and a Canon EOS 60D, worth RM4,299.

Another good reason to join the competition is the chance to have your work admired by the distinguished panel of judges. This year, local film producers Afdlin Shauki, Ah Niu, Gayatri Pillai and Datuk Paduka Shuhaimi Baba will shortlist 10 films to be showcased at an awards ceremony later in the year, when the top three winners will also be announced.

Even if you don’t make it to the top three, don’t fret. The 10 shortlisted films will be posted up on the competition’s official website (berjayayouth.com) for public voting (you can also watch last year’s winning videos there).

The film with the highest votes will win a People’s Choice Award.

Closing date for submissions is August 26, so hurry up and get those cameras rolling!
