AFTER months of intense training, cheerleaders nationwide will be strutting their stuff today and tomorrow at one of Malaysia’s biggest, boldest and most electrifying sporting events – the CHEER finals.

CHEER has been Malaysia’s premier inter-school cheerleading competition since its inception in 2000, and this year, with the support of co-sponsors U Mobile and SimplySiti, the sport is set to reach even greater heights.

If you’ve never been to a CHEER event, it’s high time you do so.

This year marks the competition’s 15th anniversary, so expect an even grander affair. In fact, a whopping 10,000 fans and spectators are expected to grace the stands in support of the 34 participating teams.

Malaysian superstar Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, founder of cosmetics brand SimplySiti, will be one of those in the stadium this year watching the cheerleaders’ gravity-defying stunts. She’ll be making a special CHEER 2014 appearance tomorrow!

But apart from the jaw-dropping cheerleading stunts and routines, spectators will also get the chance to win freebies and prizes throughout the event.

Celebrity deejays Jeremy Teo and Terry Ong from Red FM will be there all day mingling with the fans, playing wacky games with them and handing out loads of prizes from Momoé, Perskindol, DTCK Corporation, Miacare, Ginvera and Chek Hup.

Aside from that, those who joined U Mobile’s U Cheer Off! contest will also stand a chance to win some great prizes, too!

The online contest, which ended yesterday, saw the CHEER 2014 teams posting videos of their routines onto the U Mobile Facebook page (facebook.com/umobile) and rallying to get votes.

The team with the most votes will take home the #CHEER4U Award of 25 sets of ZTE V817 smartphones, prepaid SIM packs and RM50 top-up vouchers.

Some of the lucky fans who voted, too, will pick up Chatime and Oldtown White Coffee vouchers.

Of course, the main prize everyone will be looking forward to are the trophies for CHEER’s three main divisions – All-Girls, Co-Ed and Juniors.

Most teams would have trained all-year long for the competition, so if you’re attending the event, be prepared for an extremely competitive atmosphere!

The Cyrens from Sri Kuala Lumpur have been the All-Girls school division champions for four years running – just one win short of matching the all-time CHEER record of five titles, held by team Shirtliff from SMK Seri Bintang Selatan.

CHEER 2014 teams have been practising tirelessly since last year to perfect their impressive stunts and routines.

Will they be able to do it, or will another team rise to dethrone the formidable champions?

Make your way to Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur today and tomorrow to find out.

Oh, and here’s the best part – admission is free!

* CHEER is organised by R.AGE. It is co-sponsored by U Mobile and SimplySiti. Red FM is the official radio station. For more information, log on to www.facebook.com/TheStarCHEER.
